Bernstein Event Wows a Sold Out Crowd

On Thursday, March 28, the JCC of Northern NJ community gathered at Bacari Grill in Washington Township to hear stories, songs and music by and about the late great conductor/composer Leonard Bernstein. Through the words of his daughter, Jamie Bernstein, the audience was transported to a time when adults gathered in living rooms to smoke and debate politics, a life where stars like Lauren Bacall casually dropped by for a visit and place like NYC landmarks Carnegie Hall and the Dakota building, where the Bernstein’s lived for a time.

The musical selections, performed by Ron Levy on keyboards and Kristen Plumley, soprano, elevated the evening to a Broadway-worthy experience – right here in in Bergen County.
The event was sold out with over 120 attendees present and a waiting list full of others who wished we could find room in the standing-room only event.

It gives the JCC of Northern NJ great pleasure to return to the community with elegant events full of Jewish life and culture. Our mission is to create community where people gather and this evening did exactly that, especially for the gentleman in the audience who shared with the room that his grandmother was present at Leonard Bernstein’s Bar Mitzvah!
