Exploring Opera: Laughter is the Best Medicine

Thursday, July 30 at 4:00 PM EDT via Zoom

Take a break from the craziness and stress of our world on a journey of charming, funny, even downright hilarious scenes from works of the Baroque period through the centuries to Modern opera. Operas are stereotyped as being full of high drama and tragedy. (Actually, all of that is caused by the singers backstage!) With video performance clips bringing the excitement and beauty of opera into our class, popular San Francisco Bay Area instructor James Sokol will share some of the wonderful comic moments throughout the history of opera. This is a great class for both the opera newcomer and the long-time fan.

James Sokol started in the opera world under Beverly Sills at New York City Opera. After working on projects with the Opera Company of Philadelphia while in graduate school, Sokol moved west to work at San Francisco Opera. He is a former Executive Director of Pocket Opera and a Founding Member of the Singers Development Foundation.

The JCC of Northern New Jersey is delighted to partner with our friends at the Osher Marin JCC (San Rafael, CA) to bring you this special presentation.

This class is free!
