Jew-ish: High Holiday Live Cooking Demo with Jake Cohen

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

JEW-ISH: A COOKBOOK: Reinvented Recipes from a Modern Mensch

(On Sale MARCH 9, 2021)

In JEW-ISH, Jake reinvents the food of his Ashkenazi heritage and draws inspiration from his husband’s Persian-Iraqi traditions to offer recipes that are modern, fresh, and enticing for a whole new generation of readers. Imagine the components of an everything bagel wrapped into a flaky galette and latkes dyed vibrant yellow with saffron for a Persian spin on the potato pancake, plus best-ever hybrid desserts like Macaroon Brownies and Pumpkin Spice Babka. From elevated, yet approachable classics like Jake’s Perfect Challah, Roasted Tomato Brisket, Short Rib Cholent, and Iraqi Beet Kubbeh Soup to innovative creations like Cacio e Pepe Rugelach, Sabich Bagel Sandwiches, and Matzo Tiramisu.

Cohen created the book with the modern millennial in mind, experienced home cooks or not, who want elevated versions of old-school classics. Alongside the 100-plus recipes, he peppers the very personal narrative with his tips on entertaining, menus for holidays like Passover and Rosh Hashanah, and instructions on how to make challah with step-by-step guide for braiding dough are clear or try his schmaltz (rendered chicken fat). The recipes are so good, you obviously don’t have to be Jewish to enjoy them either.
