Short Film & Discussion: Commandment 613

Stay after the program for lunch. All are welcome. $5 donations are lovingly accepted and include the program and lunch.

MENU: Israeli salad, falafel, pita & hummus plus breaded flounder, green beans and couscous.

About the film

In this short documentary, Rabbi Kevin Hale, the son of refugees from Nazi Germany, joyfully practices the sacred craft of a sofer or Torah scribe, restoring ancient handwritten scrolls that contain the five books of the Old Testament and are central to Jewish life. As his work takes him to communities entrusted with scrolls saved in Czechoslovakia during World War II, he reflects on his path from secular Judaism to a life of faith and practice – and the many ways to fulfill the final commandment in the Torah — #613: to write the scroll itself. Film by Miriam Lewin & Randi Cecchine.
