Hours: Monday-Thursday, 9:30 am-2:30 pm (25 hrs/week)
Reports To: Director of Active Seniors
Location: Kol Dorot/River Edge (T-Th) and Lewis JCC/West Nyack (M-W)

Job Description

The Active Seniors Program Assistant plays a key role in supporting the delivery of engaging, mission-driven programs that build community and foster meaningful participation for area seniors. This position supports both
daily programming and special events, working closely with the Director to ensure a welcoming, inclusive environment that reflects the mission of the JCC of Northern NJ.

This job is a combination of rewarding hands-on work with seniors, and the creative, organizational, and administrative planning and implementation of the program…all in the context of Jewish nonprofit/communal life.

This is a 20-25 hour/week job: 9:30 AM-2:30 PM; two days/week in River Edge, NJ and two days/week in West Nyack, NY.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Director to plan and execute dynamic programming for local Active Seniors including large holiday celebrations
  • Interact with seniors in welcoming, and meaningful ways
  • Purchase/order supplies as needed
  • Assist with transportation logistics for seniors at end of day
  • Assist with setup, breakdown, and troubleshooting of room configurations and accommodations for each program
  • Partner with the Director to represent JCCNNJ at community-wide and organizational events as needed
  • Help oversee and maintain organized program spaces, ensuring efficient inventory management and supply access
  • Improve internal operations and drive process efficiencies when possible
  • Use A/V technology (projector, screen, sound system, Zoom) with confidence
  • Photograph participants and presenters during the programs for use on social media
  • Collaborate with the Director on social media posts to boost program visibility and community engagement
  • Support the Kitchen Manager with lunch service, as needed
  • A genuine interest in the Jewish communal space, Israel advocacy, and nonprofit work

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Prior experience in event planning, education, community work, or senior services a plus
  • Comfort with computers and tech or a willingness and aptitude to learn (Google Drive, A/V equipment, email tools)
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities

Reports to: Program & Community Outreach Director
Salary range: $63,000-65,000

This role heavily involves networking, especially within the Jewish community, event planning, and engaging various leaders in the community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program Development: Design, implement, and manage community outreach goals and programs tailored to J on the Go and PJ Library’s mission.
  • Relationship Building: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with community leaders, local businesses, and partner organizations. Be an active leader and face of our organization.
  • Event and Group Development: Plan, organize, and staff community events and outreach initiatives. Includes at least one evening and one Sunday every month. Oversee staff charged with monthly family events. Strategically plan and execute affinity group experiences (parents’ nights out, baby groups, specialty family groups).
  • Communications: Act as the face of the organization by presenting at public events, engaging in elevated conversations with leaders at all levels in the community, advising on social media and written material, and creating targeted enrollment campaigns.
  • Data & Reporting: Assess community needs, collect data on program impact, and report on outcomes for grant purposes.
  • Leadership & Volunteer Management: Recruit, train, and supervise Volunteers and Parent Connectors to assist with various outreach and leadership development goals. Oversee and manage cohort of young leaders, refining curriculum and executing on the Board’s goals for leadership development. Foster community and engagement among parent lay leaders.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: 8+ years of experience in community organizing, non-profit outreach, or public relations.
  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to comfortably speak to large groups and diverse populations.
  • Adaptability: A high degree of cultural competency, empathy, and comfort traveling locally to meet members of the community.
  • Organization: Strong project and time management skills.

  • Expand the Circle: Proactively identify and welcome new families into the PJ Library community.

  • Resource Connection: Act as a bridge, connecting parents to local Jewish resources and opportunities.

  • Flexibility: Ability to work a varied schedule, including at least one Sunday per month.

  • Budget Management: Oversight of a $800 annual budget for materials and program supplies.
